WHY IT WORKS
STUDENTS catch up, keep up, and stay ahead on your literacy skills at school, at home, or on-the-go. You will see that with just a little practice, you’ll feel more confident in school and see your vocabulary and reading ability go way up!
PARENTS help kids develop effective reading skills, which are key for success in school (and in life!) During downtime at home or long trips in the car, you have activities to offer your kids that are fun and engaging for them, and also build their academic skills.
TEACHERS help your students continue their learning and review material in or out of the classroom. You will discover effective ways to achieve the outcomes you envision for your students.
RESEARCH-BASED METHODS
The 35+ interactive games and activities let students learn and retain words more effectively through:
Multiple Encounters
Research shows that students need at least 12 exposures to new words to secure them in their long-term memory. The games provide diverse and repeated opportunities to encounter new words, greatly aiding in retention.
Multiple Modalities
When students see and hear a word, and then break it down into its parts or read it in context, they are more likely to acquire the word’s meaning. With voice recordings, interactive sound boxes, animations, syllable activities and contextual sentences, these games create a rich learning experience for students.
Spacing
To ensure that new words stay in long-term memory, students must repeatedly revisit and review them over time (use it or lose it)! Students can create review lists that they save and return to later. They can pair them with so many different games that the process of reviewing words stays fresh and interesting.
Word Selection
Vocabulary affects student achievement across all subject areas. Our ready-made word lists support literature, academic vocabulary, content area vocabulary, and informational texts from the CCSS. Studying with these targeted lists, as well as having the option to create your own, can improve student performance across all aspects of their academic career.
Self-Testing
Rather than passive memorization, self-testing is a better tool for retention because it requires students to actively recall a word and retrieve it from memory. Our self-testing activities give students this opportunity, while also helping them identify gaps in their knowledge, so that they can prepare for school evaluations and be sure to master the material.
